#FuturesTrades October 30th Monday 2006 Trade Log

#FuturesTrades is a private and free realtime trading posting chat room on the IRC Othernet server that allows traders from all over the world to communicate.

Click here for the instructions on gaining access to #FuturesTrades.

In addition, trades posted by members of #FuturesTrades in the below trade post chat log are by traders that do not have access to TheStrategyLab.com strategies except for NihabaAshi.

Fee-based clients of TheStrategyLab.com strategies use the private IRC rooms called #TheStrategyLab and #SwingTradingTSL.

Further, you'll find below the chat room time stamped text log of realtime trades (real money and simulator) that were posted by full-time, part-time traders from around the world and the timestamp is eastern standard time (est).

Also, below NihabaAshi's trading blog like comments, you can read the time stamped trades (prices, entries, exits et cetera) and market discussions that sometimes contains trading tips or insights that are more useful than what you will see at any other futures blog or chat room.

Trading Blog Below is not your traditional trader's blog in the usual blog format. However, you will find informative commentary on a few occasions as time permits and such will contain trading tips that should help your trading as I attempt to sum up my thoughts as I traversed from the first trade to the last trade that was posted in #FuturesTrades realtime trade posting chat room.

Trader versus Vendor

Profit/Loss Blotter

Early arriving snow over the weekend had me busy most of the day today preparing for the winter and finishing up some outdoor home projects.

I did only three trades today but I did reach my goals for the day in the first trade of the day. The first three trades via the Swing Trading Report (STR) whereas the last trade of the day was something new (a possible new edge for next year during low volatility trading conditions).

Someone recently sent me an email asking me why do I sell me strategies and risk losing its edge when too many traders begin to use it.

First of all, I'm not using a mechanical system nor automation trading.

That reason alone allows the different personality of each trader to actually apply the method differently than the other trader even though my methodology is rule based.

In addition, in reply to another question, I sell my strategies because many of my clients have actually helped me improved my own methodology via our private Question & Answer consultations and that in itself results in more consistent profitable trading for myself and for them...something I could not have done on my own nor could they have done on their own.

Also, selling my strategies gives me additional income that allows me to afford to be able to find new edges because there are a few trading days each month I put aside my own profitable methodology to trade a small size position via a new edge...additional income that compensates when the new edge causes losses.

For example, my two best trades of the year (not today) were due to a client seeing something that I had missed and I was able to still capitalize on the entry without exceeding my chase range.

Today's results (real money and simulator trading) shown above are that of NihabaAshi only. To see his total accumulated points for the month of October...click here. To see results for the months of 2006 and prior years...click here.

Commentary by M.A. Perry (a.k.a. NihabaAshi)

Note: Each month there are a few trading days that we consider to involve interconnecting key price action of different markets and such is represented by a particular type of price action from one of the key markets. You can view the charts and their clues that's associated with the key price action at our key market archives.

Traders Accounting

As traders we must treat our trading like a business if we are to succeed as traders and as a business. Therefore, waiting till the last few weeks March to prepare for April's taxes is not good for your trading and could put extra stress on your trading during tax month or the months that follow if your one of those traders that filed an extension.. Therefore, its best to be on top of your taxes throughout the year and Traders Accounting is a great resource for such especially if you want to prevent penalties or an audit several years from now.

<jperl> You must be from Missouri11:36
<Brutus> What seems a counter trend to you is a good entry with measurable stop for me

* WannaBeBOS is now known as BOS-doc11:57
<eminitrader> yeah thats tough..once u miss the entry...chasing never works for me
usually ct trading is tough...if u do well on those ..trend trading should be easy for ucomparatively i mean12:00
<Brutus> Logic would say so.12:02

jperl.. u trying the YM?12:44
<jperl> sure...why not
fun to trade it when ER is not doing anything
<szubaark> i didnt like it.. too many Stop spikes hitting my Stops.. NQ a lot smoother12:45
<jperl> I don't use stops...so not a problem
<szubaark> ER trading is my ultimate goal.. but right now not ready for it. I got too many flaws, and ER will expose them ALL12:46
<jperl> I will only enter a trade if I see a possible scale in, if the trade moves against me...12:47
which happpened on that last YM set
found that stops will bleed you to death12:48
<szubaark> yes.. need to give it breathing room.. which is where EXPERIENCE comes in12:49

Exited all Long NQ at 1731.25 --> 0 paper

<jperl> The last YM set is instructive....12:52
Initial entry was at 12133
Market started to move against me....12:53
I scaled in contract 2 at 1217...
Market continued to move against me....
Scaled in contract 3 at 12113...
Eventually exited all 3 contracts at 12122 for break even...12:54
If I were using stops...
I would have had a loss of about 20 ticks12:55

<NihabaAshi> You mean the manual input of the /s command ?
<RussellDaytrade> will have to memorize the command

yes

when I type /s and the value, such as 774, it doesn't post

have to command /ss to invoke the short sale post16:44

Shorts ER2 @ 774 -> small size

and it denotes small size, (which for me still applies)

Think Geek

I don't always trade nor monitor the market from my home office. Sometimes I'll do such from one of my favorite nearby Wi-Fi hotspot or whenever I'm traveling via using this little Wi-Fi detection gadget I got from Think Geek that will show more than just the presence of any nearby signal and its signal strength. It has a 12-character LCD that provides information on signal availability and strength as well as essential network information, including SSID, security status and channel. When multiple networks are present the LCD me to scroll through information for each network.
