#FuturesTrades March 6th Tuesday 2007 Trade Log

#FuturesTrades is a private and free realtime trading posting chat room on the IRC Othernet server that allows traders from all over the world to communicate.

Click here for the instructions on gaining access to #FuturesTrades.

In addition, trades posted by members of #FuturesTrades in the below trade post chat log are by traders that do not have access to TheStrategyLab.com strategies except for NihabaAshi.

Fee-based clients of TheStrategyLab.com strategies use the private IRC rooms called #TheStrategyLab and #SwingTradingTSL.

Further, you'll find below the chat room time stamped text log of realtime trades (real money and simulator) that were posted by full-time, part-time traders from around the world and the timestamp is eastern standard time (est).

Also, below NihabaAshi's trading blog like comments, you can read the time stamped trades (prices, entries, exits et cetera) and market discussions that sometimes contains trading tips or insights that are more useful than what you will see at any other futures blog or chat room.

Trading Blog Below is not your traditional trader's blog in the usual blog format. However, you will find informative commentary on a few occasions as time permits and such will contain trading tips that should help your trading as I attempt to sum up my thoughts for the trading day.

Trade Preparation and Intuition Trading

Profit/Loss Statement

I missed watching and trading Emini ER2 futures the first 10mins (0930am - 0940am est) due to some personal stuff at home.

Thus, I would have been bullish out of the gate to later become bearish around 0945am est to finally develop a bullish bias soon after 11am est. .

Later in the trading day I missed a Long signal in ER2 at 11am est (hindsight review). However, it was one of those sneaky trade signals that soon appears after exiting a prior trade position.

Thus, I doubt I would have seen it had I been better prepared to trade today.

Also, all trades today (except for one trade) were all intuition trades.

I define an intuition trade as a trade with some remnants from my rule based methodology while relying heavily upon my +15 years of trading experience. Today

Today's results (real money and simulator trading) shown above are that of NihabaAshi only. To see his total accumulated points for the month of March...click here. To see results for the months of 2007 and prior years...click here.

Commentary by M.A. Perry (a.k.a. NihabaAshi)

Note: Each month there are a few trading days that we consider to involve interconnecting key price action of different markets and such is represented by a particular type of price action from one of the key markets. You can view the charts and their clues that's associated with the key price action at our key market archives.

Large size
<les> but i'm doubtfull whether they can do much rationla stuff like that in these nervy conditions
<RussellDaytrade> fkit, startin early agin with wide scale10:05
<NihabaAshi> That volatility spike didn't last long :(
<les> nope :(((

looks like trundling sideways for a while now10:06
<NihabaAshi> I just recognize the tight range the other Eminis are in (ES and NQ).10:07
:(
<les> and i'm sure jperl will give us a timley reminder about trading in the vwap dead zone10:08

right here
<jperl> indeed....VWAP=771.36
<les> hehe
<WannaBeBOS> haha
<eminitrader>  Exited Remainder ES Long @ 1386 --> 0 10:09
<szubaark> yeah but u cant really tell when its gonna Range especially after we just had 10 am news u Expect Volatility
<les> szu..

the vwap is only reflecting the patten u see just before it, from about 9:46 onwards
<Brutus> 6k bid on the ES at 138650 just before the sell
<les> that pattern goes sideways mostly, so it rangebound for a bit10:10
<NihabaAshi>  Covered 1/2 ER2 Short @ 769.80 --> + 1.7
<jperl> When price action is around the VWAP you have no "edge"
<les> nice calll niha
<szubaark>  Exited all Long NQ at 1731.25 --> - 5.25 «« paper »» 10:12

:((
<NihabaAshi> I took some heat on the losing Long but kepted my size larger on the Shorts because of my bearish bias.
<les> why the bearish bias?
<NihabaAshi> I'll be reducing my size dramatically after I close this trade because the ES and NQ are in too tight of a trading range...
<szubaark>  Shorts NQ @ 1731.25 «« paper »»
<RussellDaytrade> will add at 769
<NihabaAshi> That has a residual affect on ER2.10:13
<les> daily chart suggest we just bounced off major support area
<RussellDaytrade> and every couple points down or so
<NihabaAshi> If ES and NQ can break out of that range...ER2 will move parabolic.
<les> oh boy ... they not co-oprating right now :)10:15

someone should tell em
<NihabaAshi> Volatility in CME EuroFX and Forex EurUsd is declining...10:17
Hopefully, the Eminis will get a sniff of that and put in a volatlity spike...
Preferrably in the direction of my remaining shorts.
<les>  Shorts ER2 @ 769.8 «« paper »»
<RussellDaytrade>  Long ER2 @ 769.5 -> Add «« paper »» 10:18
<NihabaAshi> By the way, the volatility and price action is because the market is waiting for those speaches later today by FED Chairman Bernanke.10:23
<RussellDaytrade>  Exited 1/2 ER2 Long @ 771.2 --> + 1.7 «« paper »»
<NihabaAshi>  Covered Remainder ER2 Short @ 771.30 --> + 0.2
<RussellDaytrade> sold the 77110:24
<NihabaAshi> He speaks at 2pm and another FED board person speaks at 1pm est.
<RussellDaytrade> l 1 at 769.5
<NihabaAshi> Thus, I don't expect volatilty and the price action to improve until around 1pm est...it'll probably get a little choppy before attempting a big move.
<RussellDaytrade>  Exited all ER2 Long @ 771.8 --> + 0.8 «« paper »» 10:25
<jperl> with the ER2 market sitting around the VWAP....

I'm done for the morning....

switching to june contract10:35
<NihabaAshi> I'm going to sit tight on this and have my stop at the opposite side of the range (support area).
<RussellDaytrade> startin early. ;)

Exited all ER2 Long @ 778.8 --> + 0.8 «« paper »»
<NihabaAshi> It's just too choppy (more expensive) to be reversing in this chop especially with Bernanke schedule to speak later.
exit stop lowered ER2 @ 769.20 10:37
I'm looking to dump my contracts at the first expansion interval "above" the range...10:38
Hopefully its a big expansion interval and not a small one.
<RussellDaytrade> i'm looking for a downdraft to get long again10:40

Long ER2 @ 778 «« paper »»
<eminitrader> u get filled :))

<NihabaAshi_away>  Covered 2/3 ER2 Short @ 767.90 --> + 1.6 10:59
I didn't catch a breakout to the upside on volatility spike...
On a small size position.
But I did catch the breakout downwards on a volatility spike on a large size position.11:00
Poor win:loss ratio today but good position size management to give me a big trading day in profits.

<NihabaAshi> If ER2 climbs back up into that earlier range area...11:03
I'll go back to a small size position only (1-2 contracts).
All trades today are "intution trades" only...nothing via my rule based methods.11:05
<RussellDaytrade> how are your intuition trades working out today?11:06
<NihabaAshi> Profitable
<RussellDaytrade> encouraging?11:07
<NihabaAshi> Yes...if I'm doing this well before a FED speech...
I have a good chance for things to get better.
<RussellDaytrade> seems like you're stating reasonable close to your usual trding style. glad to hear its going well, nice trading.11:09
<NihabaAshi> I've been active in the p.m. trading session lately to allow myself to develop some confidence in trading the afternoons...
I'm hoping for a big day today.
<RussellDaytrade> i was hoping for a deeper sell to add more
<pat255> later guys ty11:10
<eminitrader>  Long ES @ 1485.50 11:13

no thats wrong

got stopped out # 1384.50

was previous trade ...late post11:14
<RussellDaytrade>  Exited all ER2 Long @ 778 --> + 2 «« paper »»
<venedom> lots of interenet troble today11:16
<NihabaAshi> Someone asked me earlier today why was I BEARISH...11:26
Treasury Futures have been the trading instrument for "flight to quality" recently while the Eminis, Oil, Gold and Asia markets got hit hard.11:27
Today at the Open there was a Bullish signal in the Treasuries.
Thus, based upon only the recent price action...11:28
That got me more bearish in the Eminis because I don't think Longs have a lot of faith right now and those wanting to stay active are moving into the Treasuries IMO.
<ItalianSharp> good reasoning niha11:31

what treasury futures were you lookin at? 10yr?11:32
<NihabaAshi> ZB, ZN and ZF.
I also took a peek at the Eurex Fixed Income Deriviatives BUND.
Same scenario for the BUND11:33
<ItalianSharp> yep...should be the same
<NihabaAshi> It's been a flight to quality trading instrument.
Just some "intermarket analysis".11:34
<ItalianSharp> niha, is there always negative correlation between treasuries and markets or is it just some "seasonal" thing that comes and goes like oil etc

i mean, can treasuries go up and markets go up at the same time?11:35
<RussellDaytrade> are you discounting any of the above analysis in favor of a bounce, due predominately upon how rapidly/depth of oversold??11:36
<NihabaAshi> They are "seasonal" and "volatility" related.
* codehead_afk is now known as codehead11:37
<NihabaAshi> Thus, only look for correlations between Tresuries and the Eminis on particular times of the year and/or when there's an unusual amount of volatility.
<RussellDaytrade> att his moment, i am more inclined to think that lower rates may be viewed as a positive for the mkt, even if fleeting.
<NihabaAshi> This recent volatility (last week) is a great example of the correlation during volatility.11:38
<RussellDaytrade> and that money is leaving rteasuries to go back into mkt.
<NihabaAshi> RD...when that picks up pace...the volatility will return in the Eminis.11:39

When that happens...I'm looking for some trading days like we had last week.
<RussellDaytrade> to the upside?
<NihabaAshi> To the downside.

If I'm wrong...I'll get nailed a few times in the beginning until I smart up and go with the flow upwards.11:40
<RussellDaytrade> ok. you think we bounce first? a couple / three days or so?
starting today?
that happens to be my view, ie, bounce for a couple three, then, reassess.11:41
<NihabaAshi> I'm expecting range like environment for whatever how long until something sparks the market again (Asia, Greenspan, Bernanke, Assination Attempts et cetera).
<RussellDaytrade> i seem to have more difficulty holding profitable trades then those that go into drawdowns.11:42
yeah, maybe Ag will now come out and say probability of continued expansion is 66%, glass half (66%) full!11:43
<NihabaAshi>  Long ER2 @ 772.90 -> small size 11:44

One of the flaws of leaving an Open order out there because it may get filled on a "volatility spike" with not much room to the upside :(11:46

Exited ER2 Long @ 772.00 --> - 0.9 11:49

Traders Accounting

As traders we must treat our trading like a business if we are to succeed as traders and as a business. Therefore, waiting till the last few weeks March to prepare for April's taxes is not good for your trading and could put extra stress on your trading during tax month or the months that follow if your one of those traders that filed an extension.. Therefore, its best to be on top of your taxes throughout the year and Traders Accounting is a great resource for such especially if you want to prevent penalties or an audit several years from now.
