#FuturesTrades February 13th Tuesday 2007 Trade Log

#FuturesTrades is a private and free realtime trading posting chat room on the IRC Othernet server that allows traders from all over the world to communicate.

Click here for the instructions on gaining access to #FuturesTrades.

In addition, trades posted by members of #FuturesTrades in the below trade post chat log are by traders that do not have access to TheStrategyLab.com strategies except for NihabaAshi.

Fee-based clients of TheStrategyLab.com strategies use the private IRC rooms called #TheStrategyLab and #SwingTradingTSL.

Further, you'll find below the chat room time stamped text log of realtime trades (real money and simulator) that were posted by full-time, part-time traders from around the world and the timestamp is eastern standard time (est).

Also, below NihabaAshi's trading blog like comments, you can read the time stamped trades (prices, entries, exits et cetera) and market discussions that sometimes contains trading tips or insights that are more useful than what you will see at any other futures blog or chat room.

Trading Blog Below is not your traditional trader's blog in the usual blog format. However, you will find informative commentary on a few occasions as time permits and such will contain trading tips that should help your trading as I attempt to sum up my thoughts for the trading day.

Note: Each month there are a few trading days that we consider to involve interconnecting key price action of different markets and such is represented by a particular type of price action from one of the key markets. You can view the charts and their clues that's associated with the key price action at our key market archives.

<AmazingJason> tough market today10:17
<NihabaAshi> Overall volatility becoming clearer...its low and starting to be even from one interval to the next.
That usually results in a tough trading day.

keeps coming back to it

<NihabaAshi> ER2 volatility now low enough to be expecting a volatility spike here soon.

If this spike upwards...it should retest the 814.00 price area.10:29

<NihabaAshi> right back where I started :(10:37
<AmazingJason>  Covered Remainder ER2 Short @ 811.90 --> + 1.3 10:39
<ItalianSharp> niha, you are the living example of the best principle of daytrading: keep your losers small and let your profits run...your winning% must be well below 50% today, but yet you still managed to keep things under control and right now you have the chance to be profitable for the day...great learning lesson today

for all newbies seeking the holy grail...well, thats the holy grail10:40
<AmazingJason> i wanted to hold my last 1/3, but MB Trading keeps crashing
<szubaark> Italian yes BUT Nihas entries are very good and newbies entries arent even close so they cant keep their Stops tight like Niha :(10:41

there is A LOT MORE to it then just small Stops10:42
<ItalianSharp> szu: i don't agree with you. focusing too much on the entries is mistake #1 newbies make. I too have been focusing so much on the PERFECT entry, yet I the more I trade the more I learn that entering is the last thing you should worry about...trade management is by far more important10:43
niha manages to keep his losers small simply because he accepts losses very easily and cuts his losers short10:44
<NihabaAshi> ItalianS...learning how and when to ride a winner long enough to compensate for a trading day that has a poor win:loss ratio took years of trading and tons of patience.

A little luck too.
<szubaark> Niha thats my point.
<ItalianSharp> i agree niha, it takes years of experience...but cutting your losers short is just a matter of accepting losses and keeping your capital intact when you are wrong and when the market doesn't prove you right10:45
<NihabaAshi> I still haven't had a trade where I smell blood (go for the kill) sort'uv speak.
Hopefully it comes soon instead of later in the trading day.10:46
<ItalianSharp> if you are a daytrader, most of the days the market will give you the opportunity to have 1-2 decent trades...however, you never know WHEN...it could be the 1st trade of the day or the last one...our job as daytraders is to keep our drawdown to a minimum so that we can shoot all teh bullets in our guns and eventually catch the good trades10:47
<NihabaAshi> If this can retest 810.70, that's a good price to start smelling blood.
<AmazingJason>  Long ER2 @ 812.10 -> small size 10:48
<RussellDaytrade> 810.7 a good price to long them, or short them?10:49
<NihabaAshi>  Covered ER2 Short @ 812.30 --> + 0.3

<NihabaAshi> asuni, the odds are against me "now" that this will drop further.11:22

Traders Accounting

As traders we must treat our trading like a business if we are to succeed as traders and as a business. Therefore, waiting till the last few weeks March to prepare for April's taxes is not good for your trading and could put extra stress on your trading during tax month or the months that follow if your one of those traders that filed an extension.. Therefore, its best to be on top of your taxes throughout the year and Traders Accounting is a great resource for such especially if you want to prevent penalties or an audit several years from now.

Hopefully it doesn't dry up while price rises...
That would limit my ability to catch a good price to reverse my Short remainders into a Long position.15:00
I need a 812 exit on some contracts to give me a fighting chance to possibly go profitable for the day if the following trade entry results as a profit.15:03
<venedom>  Covered all ER2 Short @ 812.20 --> + 1.7 15:04
<ItalianSharp> looks like ER wants to take out those stops15:05
<NihabaAshi>  Covered ER2 Short @ 811.90 --> + 1.4 15:08

Holding 3 contracts

Covered ER2 Short @ 811.60 --> + 1.7 15:11

<RussellDaytrade> 160 net beats a poke in the eye.15:39
<NihabaAshi>  Exited 2/3 ER2 Long @ 813.60 --> + 1.2 15:40

<jperl> Yes I guess it does
<NihabaAshi> Holding 1 contract
Trading is so much easier when there's "consistent volatility".15:42
