Screen Capturing, Chart Storage and Image Linking
Many traders want the ability to screen capture and/or link to important charts along with a place to store their charts as they discuss their trades or trade signals with other traders.
This also allows for better responses to your questions because a trader will be able to see exactly what your writing about.
A picture has a thousand words.
First of all...TheStrategyLab.com is not a storage facility for your charts.
We ourselves use to below highly recommended free services to capture images of our trading charts for storage at the recommended free services except for many of our generic website images like the images you see on this web page.
Snagit is useful if your using a charting program that either doesn't allow you to make annotations on your chart or only allows you to download an image as a large .bmp file...the free program called Snagit is great for capturing an image and making annotations on that image while giving you the option of saving it in many different formats.
http://www.techsmith.com/snagit.asp
After Snagit's free trial is over...you can still continue using it...however...a Snagit logo will appear in the corner of your image.
Xnview has many versions. We highly recommend you download the full setup version instead of the full zip version...because we had some crash issues with the zip version.
Now...before you save and upload any chart images...you should produce your images as either .gif or .png files and then store them at any of the below recommended free resources.
However, we do not recommend you saving your images as .jpg or .bmp files because they are too large and are designed for photography.
In addition, .png or .gif files are easier to attach to emails and easier for the receiver of your images to download them.
Also, there's a list of many more screen capture programs...many are free and others cost a small fee after the free trial....
Where do you upload your new images for linking?
Below are several options for storing and linking to your chart images via either TTrader MyCharts, ImageShack or your own personal webpage.
This is a popular free place to store your charts and read about strategies being used by other traders.
It is our favorite location for storing our own charts.
MyCharts is hosted at TTrader.com and is a free chart image hosting website.
Now...if your reading this page because you want to link or embed an image in your message post at our discussion forums...this is how you can do such.
First of all...go to MyCharts...you must first register to be a member...it's free.
To keep things simple...we recommend you use the same user name and password you used at ezboard even though we have no association with MyCharts other than the fact that we are users of MyCharts just like you will be...
Our chart folder for TheStrategyLab.com is called Trade Analysis 201.
Next...after you've registered...click on the words that say Upload/Edit so that you can upload your chart images or edit your chart images after uploading them...
Simply...click on that [Browse] button and locate the chart image you've stored on your computer's hard drive...images that can be uploaded at MyCharts are .gif, .jpg, .jpeg and .png only.
No .bmp files because they are too large.
Next...to link to the folder where you've uploaded your images to MyCharts...duplicate the below:
[link]www.ttrader.com/mycharts/display_album.php?id=433[/link]
Replace my example folder url with the url that links to your folder that stores your images...
Then post that link at our discussion forum whenever you want to talk about a chart image that's in your MyCharts folder.
Do not link directly to a specific image in your MyCharts folder when posting charts at ezboard.
Instead...link to the folder itself.
However, you may link directly to images at another image host that doesn't have all those %?& symbols in the url link.
For example, we ourselves embed images in our message posts ONLY because we store them at our own website.
ImageShack is another option and their instructions for managing your charts are clear and simple...it's free.
Now...you may be asking yourself...if I can link to chart images at the ezboard discussion forum...
Can I do the same at the #FuturesTrades or #EminiFutures realtime chat rooms?
Embedding images within your post will not work on IRC that host our live-realtime chat rooms called #EminiFutures and #FuturesTrades.
However, you can still post the actual direct link (url) in our chat rooms.
With all that's said above...if you don't like Dacharts.com, TTrader MyCharts nor ImageShack...you have other image linking options:
Get your own website our personal webpage from your ISP and then link to your uploaded images.
Hold your breath and wait for us to setup our own free image host website that's similar to TTrader MyCharts or ImageShack.
Find your own image host website via using Google search engine via typing in the box below either of the phrases in red...Graphic Hosting or Image Hosting or Free Website Hosting.
Here's a low cost example via hosting at NetFirms.com
Note: We recommend you find an image web host plan that charges less than $5 per month and that provides a minimum of 250 megabyte disk space. Ignore all those that doesn't allow linking so that images can be viewable at another web source.
Sincerely,
M.A. Perry and Associates
