#FuturesTrades November 30th Thursday 2006 Trade Log

#FuturesTrades is a private and free realtime trading posting chat room on the IRC Othernet server that allows traders from all over the world to communicate.

Click here for the instructions on gaining access to #FuturesTrades.

In addition, trades posted by members of #FuturesTrades in the below trade post chat log are by traders that do not have access to TheStrategyLab.com strategies except for NihabaAshi.

Fee-based clients of TheStrategyLab.com strategies use the private IRC rooms called #TheStrategyLab and #SwingTradingTSL.

Further, you'll find below the chat room time stamped text log of realtime trades (real money and simulator) that were posted by full-time, part-time traders from around the world and the timestamp is eastern standard time (est).

Also, below NihabaAshi's trading blog like comments, you can read the time stamped trades (prices, entries, exits et cetera) and market discussions that sometimes contains trading tips or insights that are more useful than what you will see at any other futures blog or chat room.

Trading Blog Below is not your traditional trader's blog in the usual blog format. However, you will find informative commentary on a few occasions as time permits and such will contain trading tips that should help your trading as I attempt to sum up my thoughts for the trading day.

Trading Perspective

No trades today due to personal reasons and I've finish the month of November meeting all my trading goals for the month.

However, everybody else was trading and you can see their trades and discussions in the below log.

Today's results (real money and simulator trading) shown above are that of NihabaAshi only. To see his total accumulated points for the month of November...click here. To see results for the months of 2006 and prior years...click here.

Commentary by M.A. Perry (a.k.a. NihabaAshi)

Note: Each month there are a few trading days that we consider to involve interconnecting key price action of different markets and such is represented by a particular type of price action from one of the key markets. You can view the charts and their clues that's associated with the key price action at our key market archives.

<RussellDaytrade> all indexes just now reached their respective targets up from the lowest lows, in approx 10-15 minutes early, (as one can imagine on a day like this morning). don't know whrere they go from here but near full up targets were just reached. i personally have more conviction to the short side, but also prefer to enter them on sharp spikes up, whenever that may be.10:49
<ItalianSharp> Russell, I agree. I am looking for a short setup around the 786 level for ER210:51
<RussellDaytrade> while i have stronger conviction to the short side, i am somewhat expecting more upside. 785-786 is whree it made a definitive breakdown from, may reach that level and find some resistance.10:53

<pdays> which trend ?....what time frame?11:50
<RussellDaytrade> i think the market has/is turning the corner from rally to correction, so that on a larger term timeframe, weeks-to-months, prices may be in a generally declining trend.11:52

possible downtrendline break near here, if happens may provide a little juice to upside for a couple bucks. perhaps that is what i was sensing a few minutes ago.11:55

most trades were taken at the open of 15 min bars....

near the VWAP std devs14:17

i've been working on trading both long and short off the std devs

<RussellDaytrade> jp, you ever put together a combo vwap line and er price line chart? still curious how that might appear, think it may validate a 'vwap sine-curve' oscillation theory, oscillations above/below vwap, etc.
<jperl> no I haven't done that...why don't you try it and let us know14:18
<RussellDaytrade> my charts don't have that capabilty, otherwise i would be happy to.14:20
<jperl> The oscillations would depend on the time frame....so not sure how I would use it
<RussellDaytrade> intraday, mostly, but likely would still be useful on longer term charts, i think.14:21
you likely used it today, by trading the standard deviations, etc, just a different way to view/conceptualize it.14:22
<jperl> yes of course.....14:23

On a 1 minute chart you can see the oscillations....

but you need to get rid of the noise to determine direction

or at least have some way to average out the noise14:24

here is what you are talking about....14:25

1 minute line chart with VWAP and std devs on it....
<RussellDaytrade> display a smoothed or weighted ma of price as a line?? on a slightly lower/slower timefrmae? perhaps a 2 minute sequence?
<jperl> http://charts.dacharts.com/2006-11-30/JP ERL_018.png14:26

using a ma only adds to the problem.....will depend on period used14:29

what i've been doing is simply waiting till the start of each 15 min bar....14:30

take a trade if price action has crossed a std dev
<RussellDaytrade> yeah, thats it!, i see what you refer to, that 1 minute line is fast-acting. some way to impose a smoothing component to it may make the 'sine-curve' effect a little more user friendly to interpret, but i think it does help to validate the concept, just as you have shown it.
jp, do you use IB for trading, etc. if so, what charting software do you use in conjunction with it?14:32
<jperl> I use IB to trade, Ensignsoftware for charts14:33
<RussellDaytrade> is the ensign data pulled from IB, or is it standalone feed?
<jperl> zerolinetrader as front end to IB

IB data on ensign charts14:34

here is what a 15 minute line chart looks like with VWAP lines...14:37
<RussellDaytrade> ok, thx. i am beginning to incorporate daily pivot point projections, have seen it (daily PP's) displayed automatically as horizonatal lines (labeled S1, S2, R1, R2, etc). you know if that is a feature in Ensign charts also? seems like it may correlate well with vwap standard deviations.
<jperl> http://charts.dacharts.com/2006-11-30/JP ERL_019.png

you can see the oscillations are all smoothed out....14:38

that's why I use the 15 min chart

and yes you can draw other kinds of pivots using ensign
<codehead> whew, nice mkt move14:39
<RussellDaytrade> mypivots.com has hightly updates for following days values
<jperl> I don't use static pivots14:40
<RussellDaytrade> you use pivots, and if so, how do you prefer to use them?14:42

Traders Accounting

As traders we must treat our trading like a business if we are to succeed as traders and as a business. Therefore, waiting till the last few weeks March to prepare for April's taxes is not good for your trading and could put extra stress on your trading during tax month or the months that follow if your one of those traders that filed an extension.. Therefore, its best to be on top of your taxes throughout the year and Traders Accounting is a great resource for such especially if you want to prevent penalties or an audit several years from now.

<jperl> pivots I use are the std devs of the VWAP
these are dynamic
trade them like any other pivots
using 15 minute chart
<RussellDaytrade> looks like those work well.14:43
<jperl> yes they do....they are not heuristic
like static pivots are14:44
someone made up a formula for pivots and called it such
has no basis
<RussellDaytrade> those static pivots do seem to have a way of attracting prices to near them. my thinking is, if a lot of people are using them, they may be have a self-perpetuating aspect to them, in a general way. another arrow in the arsenal of tools.14:49
<jperl> depends on what "alot of people" refers to14:50
<codehead> hm, NYSE computer was down for 4 hours, this last big run started when it went back online
<RussellDaytrade> a lot of traders that have adopted and incorporated the same, and rely upon it regularly.14:51
<jperl> well a lot of traders use moving averages....

and we know where that leads you14:52
