#FuturesTrades is a private and free realtime trading posting chat room on the IRC Othernet server that allows traders from all over the world to communicate.

Volatility Analysis and Large Prints (Times & Sales Analysis)

Profit/Loss Blotter

There are hundreds of ways to determine support/resistance levels (zones) that are derived from either mathematical equations, trend line analysis, volatility analysis and pattern analysis to just name a few.

I mainly use volatility analysis and pattern analysis via as part of what I call WRB Analysis to determine my support/resistance information...have been doing such since the 80's via the exact same method.

Take a look at SPY which is the exchange traded fund of the S&P 500 that's traded on AMEX and it is important to watch because it provides additional pattern signals for trades in the Emini ES futures when ES doesn't give a pattern signal.

Look at your 2min chart of SPY that closed @ 0942am est.

That's a expansion interval or what I call a WRB (wide range body based upon the difference between the Open and Close).

That WRB is a s/r zone and had large prints (traders doing some big position sizes) in comparison to the prior intervals.

Now look at the 2min chart of SPY that closed @ 1034am est...that's a pattern signal and produced some nice profits for any of our clients that have access to our strategies.

Just as important, that earlier WRB s/r zone gave some early hints about the price action that would developed later in the trading day.

With that said, WRBs can be broken down into different types of WRBs.

Yet, info about WRBs is only reserved for our fee-based clients in our trading reports.

My point with all the above although via a simple easy to follow example...volatility analysis and times & sales analysis go hand to hand especially if your looking for clues to determine which large prints have importance versus large prints that has no impact on the price movement.

Mentally getting away from trading is much harder to do in comparison to physically getting away from trading when its time for some rest and relaxation. Personally, one of my favorite ways to mentally rest is to watch movies I've copy & recorded from the local video store via my Slysoft software that copies any copyright protected dvd's and cd's.
