#FuturesTrades October 17th Tuesday 2006 Trade Log

#FuturesTrades is a private and free realtime trading posting chat room on the IRC Othernet server that allows traders from all over the world to communicate.

Click here for the instructions on gaining access to #FuturesTrades.

In addition, trades posted by members of #FuturesTrades in the below trade post chat log are by traders that do not have access to TheStrategyLab.com strategies except for NihabaAshi.

Fee-based clients of TheStrategyLab.com strategies use the private IRC rooms called #TheStrategyLab and #SwingTradingTSL.

Further, you'll find below the chat room time stamped text log of realtime trades (real money and simulator) that were posted by full-time, part-time traders from around the world and the timestamp is eastern standard time (est).

Also, below NihabaAshi's trading blog like comments, you can read the time stamped trades (prices, entries, exits et cetera) and market discussions that sometimes contains trading tips or insights that are more useful than what you will see at any other futures blog or chat room.

Trading Blog Below is not your traditional trader's blog in the usual blog format. However, you will find informative commentary on a few occasions as time permits and such will contain trading tips that should help your trading as I attempt to sum up my thoughts as I traversed from the first trade to the last trade that was posted in #FuturesTrades realtime trade posting chat room.

Trading Perspective

Profit/Loss Blotter

Position size management was the key to today's profits.

Also, I felt mentally sluggish (tired) entering today's trading session (I even fell asleep last night during the Chicago Bears 2nd half comeback against the Arizona Cardinals).

Spent many parts of the trading day trying "new" plug-ins for my trading platform because I felt today was a good day for such due to the fact that I was trading small size most of the trading day...

See commentary in the below chat log about such.

Today's results (real money and simulator trading) shown above are that of NihabaAshi only. To see his total accumulated points for the month of October...click here. To see results for the months of 2006 and prior years...click here.

Commentary by M.A. Perry (a.k.a. NihabaAshi)
intradaystrategies@yahoo.com

Note: Each month there are a few trading days that we consider to involve interconnecting key price action of different markets and such is represented by a particular type of price action from one of the key markets. You can view the charts and their clues that's associated with the key price action at our key market archives.

<szubaark> Niha i never watch TV when trading.. I need to give trading my 100% concentration. I used to watch CNBC but its all entertainment
also i quit going to trading chatrooms :))10:30
<NihabaAshi> Some in here do...reason why they announced he was on TV.

Was wondering if that person knew if Bush was still on TV.

He usually causes a "equal volatility market" when he's being followed by the financial networks.10:31

Not good for trading unless your a scalper.

<NihabaAshi>  Exited ER2 Long @ 765.60 --> + 0.7 10:49

That's +0.50 and not +0.7

That mistake with the short position as an add messed up the math.

Still Long 3 contracts @ 765.4010:50

Volatility slowly starting to not be equal...

Reason why I'm slowly increasing my size.
<ItalianSharp> not equal...what do you mean by that? supply and demand are shifting equilibrium?10:51
<NihabaAshi> A lot of small real bodies and/or tight tick range.10:52

Very easy to "overtrade" in stuff like this.
<ItalianSharp> why did you increase your size in such a low volatile environment? expecting some spike comin up soon?10:53
<NihabaAshi> [10:50] <NihabaAshi> Volatility slowly starting to not be equal...

[10:50] <NihabaAshi> Reason why I'm slowly increasing my size.

Italian...I dropped my overall size by more than 1/210:54

Normally I trade about 6-9 contracts in October and November.10:55

However, they also have extremely low volatility days in these months...unusually low.

That's when I drop my overall size.
<ItalianSharp> yeah, i saw that10:56
<NihabaAshi> Today I started with 1 contract.
<ItalianSharp> ok...basically you start small and if your view is confirmed, you slowly add to your position
<NihabaAshi> I've now bumped that up a little from 1 contract.
<ItalianSharp> taking advantage of low volatility
<NihabaAshi> If volatility goes back to being equal for too many intervals...

I'll drop back down to 1 again.10:57

I've also made an adjustment...I'm no longer trying to catch points today...

Just want some ticks :)
<ItalianSharp> i am not getting what you mean by "equal"...can you explain that in more details please?
lol10:58
true
adapting your goals to market conditions
<NihabaAshi> Equal as in no volatility spikes...not declining dramatically nor rising dramatically.

Horizontal across the board.
<ItalianSharp> ok10:59

I had added 2 contracts on that Short reversal to compensate for the prior loss and to exploit the sudden change in volatility.11:04
<szubaark> we just need FOLLOWTHRU to the downside now.. no snapping back :((11:06
<NihabaAshi> szu...you still short from 1718 in NQ ???11:08

<codehead> hehe11:57
<NihabaAshi> Had they shown the Univ. Miami/FIU brawl at halftime...I'm sure that would have kepted me awake.
<ItalianSharp> wow...you missed the greatest comeback in NFL history without an offensive score...2 fumbles returned for TDs and one punt returned for TD...and the 40yrd missed FG by rackers, who last year was money from that range11:58
<NihabaAshi> Yep.
<ItalianSharp> crazy game indeed....this is why the NFL is so great...no other sport gives you that kinda thrill11:59

Traders Accounting

As traders we must treat our trading like a business if we are to succeed as traders and as a business. Therefore, waiting till the last few weeks March to prepare for April's taxes is not good for your trading and could put extra stress on your trading during tax month or the months that follow if your one of those traders that filed an extension.. Therefore, its best to be on top of your taxes throughout the year and Traders Accounting is a great resource for such especially if you want to prevent penalties or an audit several years from now.

<PapaJon> may have contributed to the resistance
<ItalianSharp> i know the open the gap must look pretty tempting to you right now...12:28
the gap at the open meant to say
<NihabaAshi> Ideally for me...I would like to see this counter-thrust upwards and attempt to fill in that GAP...12:30

Then retrace back down and make a new intraday low.
<ItalianSharp> that would be great price action12:31
<NihabaAshi> That would allow for me to open a Long position as a swing trade.

Mentally getting away from trading is much harder to do in comparison to physically getting away from trading when its time for some rest and relaxation. Personally, one of my favorite ways to mentally rest is to watch movies I've copy & recorded from the local video store via my Slysoft software that copies any copyright protected dvd's and cd's.

I don't always trade nor monitor the market from my home office. Sometimes I'll do such from one of my favorite nearby Wi-Fi hotspot or whenever I'm traveling via using this little Wi-Fi detection gadget I got from Think Geek that will show more than just the presence of any nearby signal and its signal strength. It has a 12-character LCD that provides information on signal availability and strength as well as essential network information, including SSID, security status and channel. When multiple networks are present the LCD me to scroll through information for each network.
