#FuturesTrades October 10th Tuesday 2006 Trade Log

#FuturesTrades is a private and free realtime trading posting chat room on the IRC Othernet server that allows traders from all over the world to communicate.

Click here for the instructions on gaining access to #FuturesTrades.

In addition, trades posted by members of #FuturesTrades in the below trade post chat log are by traders that do not have access to TheStrategyLab.com strategies except for NihabaAshi.

Fee-based clients of TheStrategyLab.com strategies use the private IRC rooms called #TheStrategyLab and #SwingTradingTSL.

Further, you'll find below the chat room time stamped text log of realtime trades (real money and simulator) that were posted by full-time, part-time traders from around the world and the timestamp is eastern standard time (est).

Also, below NihabaAshi's trading blog like comments, you can read the time stamped trades (prices, entries, exits et cetera) and market discussions that sometimes contains trading tips or insights that are more useful than what you will see at any other futures blog or chat room.

Trading Blog Below is not your traditional trader's blog in the usual blog format. However, you will find informative commentary on a few occasions as time permits and such will contain trading tips that should help your trading as I attempt to sum up my thoughts as I traversed from the first trade to the last trade that was posted in #FuturesTrades realtime trade posting chat room.

Trading Perspective

Profit/Loss Blotter

I missed another opportunity to get Long at a discounted price prior to it moving higher via several points.

In fact, the missed bullish signal was one of my most profitable pattern signals.

Other than that, it looks like the ECB Chairman may have sparked the market a second wind and the result was prices moving higher. (ECB = European Central Bank)

Today's results (real money and simulator trading) shown above are that of NihabaAshi only. To see his total accumulated points for the month of October...click here. To see results for the months of 2006 and prior years...click here.

Commentary by M.A. Perry (a.k.a. NihabaAshi)

Note: Each month there are a few trading days that we consider to involve interconnecting key price action of different markets and such is represented by a particular type of price action from one of the key markets. You can view the charts and their clues that's associated with the key price action at our key market archives.

Traders Accounting

As traders we must treat our trading like a business if we are to succeed as traders and as a business. Therefore, waiting till the last few weeks March to prepare for April's taxes is not good for your trading and could put extra stress on your trading during tax month or the months that follow if your one of those traders that filed an extension.. Therefore, its best to be on top of your taxes throughout the year and Traders Accounting is a great resource for such especially if you want to prevent penalties or an audit several years from now.

<ItalianSharp> by the way, trichet speaking right now

Mentally getting away from trading is much harder to do in comparison to physically getting away from trading when its time for some rest and relaxation. Personally, one of my favorite ways to mentally rest is to watch movies I've copy & recorded from the local video store via my Slysoft software that copies any copyright protected dvd's and cd's.
Slysoft - Copy and DVD or CD

<NihabaAshi> I also ONLY do this after having some nice profits "accumulated" for the month of October.13:48
That's where I'm sitting at now and these types of trades don't kill my profits for the month if they are "pick pocketed" for losses.13:49
<jazz1> well, you're a bit against the wind but support coming
<NihabaAshi> I prefer to see ER2 around 740 to begin initiating my swing trades.13:50
<jazz1> agree13:51

bu some sup at 4613:52

but
<szubaark_away>  Buys NQ @ 1699.25 13:54
<silo1> hi guys14:39

hey niha
<NihabaAshi> Hi silo114:43
<silo1> hey niha, you have any experience with dailygraphs?14:44

i just did a search on elitetrader and saw you had a few comments on it
<szubaark_away>  Exited all Long NQ at 1702.25 --> + 3 14:45
had to exit due to family distractions :((
<silo1> looks like someone's doing well14:46
<X>  #FuturesTrades Info -> Chat room for realtime trade posting by traders of Emini Futures (ER2, ES, NQ, YM), EuroFX Futures (EC), Eurex Derivatives (DAX, ESTX50), Euronext Futures (FTSE100, CAC40), Treasury Futures (ZF, ZN, ZB), NYMEX Futures (CL, NG, HO, QM) and Exchange Traded Funds (DIA, GLD, IWM, OIH, QQQQ, SPY)14:47
<pat255> c u guys later ...back to work ty alll14:50
<eminitrader> did anyone grab some quick scalps ?...lost my internet connection..just got back :(14:52
<Chilly> pretty slow grinding so far14:54
<eminitrader> nice bounce of the lows on the ES
<NihabaAshi>  Shorts ER2 @ 749.70 -> small size
<Chilly> yup, we'll see what 3pm brings14:55
<silo1> how are qcharts and esingla comparing to telecharts and tradestation?15:00
<NihabaAshi> Tradestation has advance custom analytical tools.15:01
QCharts does not and eSignal has just some basic stuff.
<silo1> can it do volume analysis for an individual stocks to see how much buy or sell volume it has at a given time?15:02
<NihabaAshi> Which one your talking about ?
<silo1> tradestation
<NihabaAshi> As I said...Tradestation does advance stuff and volume analysis is something that's part of any BASIC analytical program.15:03
Simply, yes.
<silo1> i see
<NihabaAshi>  Covered ER2 Short @ 750.40 --> - 0.7 15:04
Reverse and Enter Long ER2 @ 750.40
silo1...if your going to be coding your own computer codes...that's what TradeStation is for.15:07
QCharts has no coding capability.
<silo1> it's free though
<NihabaAshi> Tradestation is free ?15:08
<silo1> you sign up to their broker.

and the platform is free now i thinn

think
<eminitrader> free if u trade 10 returns
<silo1> http://www.tradestation.com/default_2.sh tm
<eminitrader> cme data = 20/month
<ItalianSharp> emini is right, it's free as long as you have $5,000 deposited and trade 10 round turns per month15:09
<NihabaAshi> My point...if your not going to be doing any coding...you may as well go with a less analytical program that offers good data.
<ItalianSharp> and you still are going to pay exchange fees for data feed
<eminitrader> well guys, thats just the platform...for each exchange u have to pay ...cme = 20$/month15:10
<silo1> oh ok
<ItalianSharp> exactly, tradestation is made for automated systems, alghorithms, adn all that stuff...if you are into sophisticated programming, then tradestation is for you
<NihabaAshi> Silo...the key is to start with a cheap data provider than as your NEEDS expand...move up to the next level of data providers.15:11

If you start to high up the latter...it may cause more headache than you can imagine via having access to all the bells and whistle stuff you don't even need.
<silo1> i see15:12
but i see a lot of people using qcharts and esignal... but these are like 98 to 109 bucks too... and tradestation is only 99 bucks per month .... AND it has more functions in them15:13
<NihabaAshi> No...the price you just quoted is incorrect.

Your not adding in the exchange fees.15:14
<silo1> but shouldn't that be excluded since you have to pay that for qcharts or esignal as well?
<NihabaAshi> You can call them and make that recommendation :)

There are different exchanges with different fees...can't be included for $99 bucks.15:15

They'll lose a ton of money and be out of business in a few months.

Simply, your asking them to pay for the exchange fees.15:16
<silo1> i see your point
but wont people have to pay the same exchange fees if they sign up for qcharts and esignal?
<NihabaAshi> That's like asking the dealer to pay for the GAS to use the new car you just bought :)

If your worry about cost...go with the cheap stuff.15:17

If your not worry about cost...go with the higher end programs like CQG, Realtick or Bloomberg.15:18
<silo1> i am worry about cost... that's why i'm using mbtrading which only has current day data (not even back data) and the free quotetracker charting system :)15:19
i was just curious abou the other ones that's all
<NihabaAshi> Does mbtrading have all the charting tools you need ?
<silo1> no charting15:20
that's why i'm using the free quotetracker
<NihabaAshi> Your not day trading right ?

Just swing trading?
<silo1> more swing trading right now
on earning stocks
why
mbtrading has awesome execution methods though
and speed15:21
<NihabaAshi> Why not just sign up with one of the subscription based websites that offer browser base analytical tools including volume analysis.
<silo1> and commission plans
like what
<NihabaAshi> I believe Stockcharts.com has a premium service.

Something along that lines...many other there...I can't remember them.15:22
<silo1> yeah but to have real time data and charting with stockcharts... you still have to pay extras
right now... i have great commission plans , fast executions with mbtrading
<NihabaAshi> Your swing trading...shouldn't matter especailly since your able to get realtime quotes without charts from your broker.
<silo1> with free quotetracker charting15:23
* szubaark_away is now known as szubaark
<silo1> mbtrading doesn't provide charting at all
they allow 3rd party integration
<NihabaAshi> That's my point...but they do offer quotes just no charts.
<silo1> yeah
right now this is good for me right now15:24
since i get good executions.. and free charting from quotetracker
but eventually i want to move on to something else
<NihabaAshi>  Exited 1/2 ER2 Long @ 751.00 --> + 0.6
<silo1> and i was just looking around earlier and had some questions that's all
<NihabaAshi> I use to manage the TradeStation northwest user group until I had a falling out with them.15:27
<szubaark> I use old school Tradestation 2000i
<NihabaAshi> I still have 2000i and the old Omega Charts software :)15:28
<szubaark> FREE data from IB (not very reliable lately) thru Metaserver
$100 data costs per month add up in ayear..especially when u trading 1 frikin contract15:29
<NihabaAshi> Agree.
<silo1> right now i'm not paying datacost
<NihabaAshi> Best to put aside all the money that's needed to trade for a minimum of one year.15:30

After that...cost becomes an issue.
<silo1> but then again, i dont get historical data... and can only see a maximum of 2 days on charts
:)
but you guys can do it too... with quotetracker and mbtrading combo
<NihabaAshi> Telecharts should be able to give you all the historical data you need (daily and weekly charts).15:31
<silo1> just make sure you have the stock or futures you trade up before the market open and you will have the data for the whole day....
<szubaark> quotetracker has those annoying ads if you DONT PAY FOR THE NO-AD VERSION
<NihabaAshi> Just lost my data feed :(15:32
<silo1> not really

they are tiny and dont pop up

i just cover them up with charts
<szubaark> Niha u holding reminder Long overnight?15:46
<yo> gn all15:52
<NihabaAshi> szu...no...it didn't make a new intraday low.
<Chilly> gn15:53
<NihabaAshi> I try to get fancy and catch a 752.10 tick but no fill :(15:54
Looking to dump my 3 contracts via a market order.
<X>  #FuturesTrades Info -> Chat room for realtime trade posting by traders of Emini Futures (ER2, ES, NQ, YM), EuroFX Futures (EC), Eurex Derivatives (DAX, ESTX50), Euronext Futures (FTSE100, CAC40), Treasury Futures (ZF, ZN, ZB), NYMEX Futures (CL, NG, HO, QM) and Exchange Traded Funds (DIA, GLD, IWM, OIH, QQQQ, SPY)15:59
<NihabaAshi> I'm still patiently waiting to dump above 752 price area.16:03
Wasn't meant to be :(16:05
Exited Remainder ER2 Long @ 751.30 --> + 0.9 16:14
<WannaBeBOS> still decent nihaba16:17
<NihabaAshi> Agree eventhoug a few trade errors kepted me from having a $1200 dollar day.16:27
One particular trade I covered a Short position but someone had an extra contract in there.
Found myself Long by one contract when I wanted to be flat.16:28
That caused a ripple effect because I was concentrating on that one contract in trying to exit the Long at a profit...
I missed an actual Long signal to put on some size :(
Take care all and see all tomorrow...today was a good trading day.16:31

I don't always trade nor monitor the market from my home office. Sometimes I'll do such from one of my favorite nearby Wi-Fi hotspot or whenever I'm traveling via using this little Wi-Fi detection gadget I got from Think Geek that will show more than just the presence of any nearby signal and its signal strength. It has a 12-character LCD that provides information on signal availability and strength as well as essential network information, including SSID, security status and channel. When multiple networks are present the LCD me to scroll through information for each network.
