Profit/Loss Statement

General Strategy Info: The above profit/loss info represents trades by M.A. Perry (a.k.a. NihabaAshi - martial arts and Japanese Candlestick term) only and all trades were posted in real-time within 5 seconds after entry or exit as shown in the below chat log.

Also, I'm the moderator of #FuturesTrades and I use the below chat log as feedback to critical trading information that's not available when I review my broker statements nor any statistical analysis of my trading.

Further, although I'm not familiar with the trade methods used by most members of #FuturesTrades, I use a rule based methodology (very objective) that involves price action only trading (no indicators).

There is some subjectivity involved with some of my trades when I'm developing a new entry signal or new trade management (hence the name TheStrategyLab.com).

In addition, my intermarket analysis allows me to switch and profitably trade any other trading instrument whenever I want if/when I don't want to trade the Russell 2000 ER2 Emini Futures.

With that said, today's trade posting chat log is below and it contains all my trades that were posted in real-time along with the trades of other members of #FuturesTrades.

Further, if you want the instructions for gaining access to our free #FuturesTrades chat room...click here.

<+Widgetman> nice
<@NihabaAshi> Someone once told me to first determine what your average profit is on a winning position.
Next, make sure your initial stop/loss protection is LESS than the average winner :)10:12

<@NihabaAshi> Kind'uv makes sense to me :)
<+tzar2> thats clever
<@NihabaAshi> Seriously though...

656 on YM
<+KN-ES>  Covered 1/2 ES Short @ 1395 --> + 1
<@NihabaAshi> I think traders should use different types of stop/losses in combo...

For examples...
<+KN-ES>  Covered 1/4 ES Short @ 1394.50 --> + 1.5
<@NihabaAshi> I have an "emergency hard stop" of -4 points on ER2

That's just in case my computer crashes in the middle of a trade

I also have a -2 point mental stop10:14
<+KN-ES>  Covered all ES Short @ 1396 --> 0
<@NihabaAshi> I try very hard not to let that mental stop be reached but it does happen every few full moons :(
<+tzar2> 2 points on ER is my daily stop loss10:15
<@X>  #FuturesTrades Info ->  No gurus, no head traders. Members use this room to document (trade journal) their trades and thoughts from one trade to the next trade because it provides critical information they can't get from broker statements nor statistics. Also, mimicking the trades by others is not recommended without their permission. More info at www.thestrategylab.com/FuturesTradesChat Room.htm
<@NihabaAshi> My 3rd initial/stop in combo is based upon the current price action...it too is a mental stop

<+Brutus> 1384 kn?
<+ItalianSharp> i still think we need to drop further to have a nice rise16:17
<+KN-ES> yes

i was looking for 84 today
<+ItalianSharp> today range price action looks like the classic bearish flag
<+KN-ES> :)

yes

well there are two ways of trading here .........16:18

that can be successful

or would be

1. range

trading

with regular size

and other is

picking a top and look for a comfortable exit somewhere with a large lot

both are safe
<+ItalianSharp> well, tough part is to pick the right top16:19
:)
<+Flex> exactly
<+KN-ES> but second one needs lot less energy
and i consider the second one safe
<+ItalianSharp> KN, how is it safe to pick a top?

i mean...how can you make it safe?
<+KN-ES> let me explain16:20
<+Flex> it is if you pick as Kn does :)
<+KN-ES> how many time have you seen price to cross 1400 in first try?
NEVER
<+Flex> today ? none16:21
<+KN-ES> how about 2nd try.........in last 6 months
NEVER
<+Flex> ok
<+KN-ES> any higer high toward 1400 is a nice short entry
as soon as vol starts fading16:22
if you have 20-25 contracts and if you make 2 basic points
thas lots 35+ net points
all you need enter 99+- and exit 97+-16:23
simple math
...... 99.50 was top today16:24
9+- was low yesterday
b4 the news
so its all goes in the same pattern
<+ItalianSharp> where would teh emergency stop be?
<+KN-ES> and how is safe trading large lots?............
<+Flex> 140216:25
<+KN-ES> say you have 20 contracts
devide it 15 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 116:26
get out first 15 with 1.5
and place your stop for the rest at 2
you already have a safe trade
<+Flex> right

<+KN-ES> its lots easier to trade large contracts
<+Flex> the pain is when you have to get those first 2 pts for the first 15 cts.
<+KN-ES> if your entry is not in the right place, you are in pain even with 1 contract16:28
<+Flex> exactly, this is the point
<+KN-ES> again............
<+rickf> agreed
<+KN-ES> if you have first 2 trade successful......
<+Flex> I think what ItalianSharp is trying to say is how to pick the RIGHT top or bottom entry :)
<+KN-ES> you have a huge plus to place ur stops

its subjective..... i already told you how i traded today16:29

star was picking swing hi and lo s today....... great trading16:30
<+Flex> yes he was good
<+KN-ES> well, bottom line is ........ you will have to change ur trading with market, dont just enter at some point and strat praying that market will change for you16:31
<+Flex> sure
<+rickf> gotta adapt to different market actions -- some days trend, some days chop16:33

you think you're on a breakout but it's just more chop noise = you get hosed
<+KN-ES> we dont have a choice, do we?
<+tzar2> KN-ES you dont use limit orders to enter, correct? only to exit
<+rickf> trade the market you're given, not the one you want :)

my charts were funny looking in the morning :)
fills , bad fills and no fills....etc16:37
so i started waiting half an hr to get the charts right
<+Flex> ok
<+KN-ES> now it like my daily analysis...... still wait that half an hr
<+tzar2> do you watch the time and sales during the first 30 min of market?
<+KN-ES> just keep watching the markets
nop16:38
time and scales are the alwasy last when taking a trade
if your analysis tells you to get in a long or short............absolutely then
only then
you go time and sale to look for a nice place of entry16:39
you dont want to place
your long in a place when you can see there is a big short right next to you
suicide...........kind of
<+Flex> lol nobody talks16:41
<+Brutus> kn when you talk of volume - is it only futures volume or equities as well
<+KN-ES> out last 1 96 .........92.50 + 3.50

will hold remainder 99 overnight16:42

just futures.......

well, predicting market direction is another thing you will have to keep in mind when trading well kind of directional trading16:43

but thats a complete different area16:44

will talk about that some other day... thats a huge topic16:45
<+Flex> great
<+Brutus> ok, thx
<+Flex> thanks
<+tzar2> thanks a lot

KN-ES, when you look at the first 30 min of market, what are you looking for specifically
<+KN-ES> lets give you an idea
in options16:46
you can masure the overvalued and undervalued area of an instrument
if can be done in futures too
say, es and er216:47
you can compare the rate of price change
for es nq and er2 nq
will give you an idea if es is overvalued or undervalued16:48
same goes for er2
so say
<+Flex> you look for inbalance betweend indexes

between
<+KN-ES> yes
<+Flex> sort of arbitrage16:49
<+KN-ES> this is only ture for premarket analysis
you dont want to do all these anlysis when you are in trading............ you will be way late then
anyway
say, es is overvalued compre to er216:50
now as options, it must be more than +1
then you can expect price drop16:51
now which one should u trade.........er or es or any other
you may look for any other insturment that has that value in between es and er2
then if you are wrong........then16:52
since you are starting from the middle........ your risk is numbered ...... as long as es or er2 not making a new high at bar-1
thats bar -3
3rd last bar........ to be considered16:53
so you have limited risk and open downside for a free fall
<+Flex> ehm ok16:54
<+KN-ES> this is a mean to guess the direction of the trading
then once you are done with that......and other analysis.....and sure about the direction more or less ........
<+tzar2> is there a formula to calculate rate of change?16:55

how do you calculate it
<+Flex> Excel spreadsheet ?
<+KN-ES> yes

i use braincell

it made my job very easy,....... and short :)
although its subjective how you manage to combine ur analysis to Nihas report17:05
<+Flex> yes
<+KN-ES> and its takes considerable time
<+tzar2> is Niha's complex?
<+KN-ES> you cannt start trading overnight
not complex........ needs time to get to the theme
its not like cci cross
cross ...... buy/sale ...... loss ...... done17:06
<+tzar2> heh
