Russell 2000 Emini ER2 Futures

Today Month Year

One Size Fits All...Not!

Profit/Loss Statement

There are many different types of market conditions and I strongly believe that most traders try to apply the same method with the same position size regardless to the type of market condition (I'm not talking about bullish or bearish markets).

These types of traders are at a disadvantage and few are profitable with such a one size fits all approach.

Therefore, I'm a strong believer in position size management, volatility analysis, market seasonal cycles, intraday tendencies to be able to exploit the fact that today's market is different than next week's market or that we don't trade the same way every day for whatever reason.

Further, for several years now at different discussion forums I've given many simple examples of how to use the above as an edge.

As for my own trading, I reached my goals (I'm not talking about profits) for the day as I have been doing all week.

Commentary by M.A. Perry (a.k.a. NihabaAshi)
intradaystrategies@yahoo.com

Note: I'm currently exclusively trading the Russell 2000 Emini ER2 futures even though my strategies are applicable and profitable on all the trading instruments listed towards the bottom of this webpage along with my past trade journals showing consistent profits in other trading instruments prior to exclusively trading ER2.

Further, I can switch and trade any trading instrument that's listed below at the bottom of this webpage for any trader that request such mainly because I do a lot of intermarket analysis while trading ER2.

However, if you want to see up-to-date pattern signals in other trading instruments...click here.

   Trading Strategies ->   These strategies will reveal and explain specific strategies from entry to exit that exploit inefficiencies in the price action of your trading instrument for profits in the following trading instruments: Emini Index Futures (ER2, ES, NQ, YM), EuroFX Futures (EC), Eurex Index Derivatives (DAX, ESTX50), Euronext Index Futures (FTSE100, CAC40), Treasury Futures (ZF, ZN, ZB), NYMEX Energy Futures (CL, NG, HO, QM), Forex Currencies (EurUsd, EurYen, UsdCdn), Exchange Traded Funds (DIA, GLD, OIH, IWM, QQQQ, SPY, XLE) and Hang Seng Index Futures (HSI)

<markss> at almost 8 to 1 up/down volume to the upside that was probably smart even though your trade is working09:53
<Brutus>  Long ES @ 1489.25 «« paper »»
<szubaark>  Exited all Long NQ at 1861.50 --> - 5 «« paper »» 09:54
<Brutus>  Exited all ES Long @ 1489 --> - 0.25 «« paper »»
<NihabaAshi> Yeah...it was an "intuition trade" and the price action is too bullish for such.09:55
Thus, it was also a counter-trend trade.
<szubaark>  Shorts NQ @ 1862.50 «« paper »» 09:56
<Brutus>  Long ES @ 1489.75 «« paper »» 09:57
<RussellDaytrade> looks like a sell to me09:58

826.1

hours hence09:59
<markss> there has been no pull back at all in the $vold upvol minus down volume10:03
<szubaark> doesnt look Bullish anymore
<Brutus> was about to add :(10:04
<NihabaAshi>  Shorts ER2 @ 831.50 -> small size 10:05

1 contract only
<szubaark> Overnight sure looked Bullish :))10:06
exit stop set NQ @ 1862.50 «« paper »» 10:07
<NihabaAshi> Volatility is now contracting...expecting a volatility spike here soon.10:08
<Brutus>  Exited all ES Long @ 1488.75 --> - 1 «« paper »» 10:09
thats a add
Long ES @ 1489.75 «« paper »»
Long ES @ 1488.75 -> Add «« paper »»
<NihabaAshi> Not much of a spike but still a valid spike.10:10
<markss> the up/down volume continues to rise on this pullback down, just in case anyone is interested, so hard for me to10:11
make a move to downside even though I was tempted to short the market
<NihabaAshi>  Covered ER2 Short @ 831.40 --> + 0.1
<szubaark> No Econ Reports reminder of day.. should be Fum
<NihabaAshi> szubaark...there are two FED speeches today the market will be watching...10:12
<asuni> at what time?
<NihabaAshi> 12pm noon and another at 12:15pm est
<Brutus> 1200/1600 Tsy Secy Paulson speaks on China policy

speech at
<NihabaAshi> Tresury Secretary Paulson speaks at 12noon est and Fed Governor Mishkin speaks at 12:15pm est.10:13

Thus, I'm going remain on the sidelines until around 11:45pm est.10:14
<asuni> can u write the link? in mine there are no speeches
<NihabaAshi> Until then...I'm expecting WRB's to be retraced easily and possibly some tight trading ranges on low volatility.

<pat255> looks like er gonna shoot up..10:19
<markss> NihabaAshi did you take your short trade at 10:06 to go back and fill in the last WRB

if you dont mind me asking, new to the room so not sure to ask or not10:20
<X>  #FuturesTrades Info -> Chat room for realtime trade posting by traders of Emini Futures (ER2, ES, NQ, YM), EuroFX Futures (EC), Eurex Derivatives (DAX, ESTX50), Euronext Futures (FTSE100, CAC40), Treasury Futures (ZF, ZN, ZB), NYMEX Futures (CL, NG, HO, QM) and Exchange Traded Funds (DIA, GLD, IWM, OIH, QQQQ, SPY)10:23
<szubaark>  Covered all Short NQ at 1861.25 --> + 1.25 «« paper »» 10:24

Buys NQ @ 1861.25 «« paper »» 10:25
<Brutus>  exit stop set ES @ 1488.25 «« paper »» 10:31
<NihabaAshi> Also, today is normal Options Expiration day...10:33

I'm not sure if that has any impact on the market today.

In the past before the Quadruple Witching became known...Mon - Weds on a Options Expiration friday were the real trading days.10:34
<szubaark>  Exited all Long NQ at 1859.50 --> - 1.75 «« paper »» 10:40
Shorts NQ @ 1859.50 «« paper »»
<Brutus>  Exited all ES Long @ 1488.25 --> - 2 «« paper »»
<NihabaAshi> Looks like a lot of traders was looking for a GAP fill in the first hour of trading.10:41
In my opionion (no facts to back it up)...the best GAP fills occurs after 1030am est...after everybody has gotten use to the fact its not going to fill.
Reason why on trading days like today...if I'm short...10:42
<pat255> god point but this move up & last 2 days doubt it will fill
<NihabaAshi> I trade normal but if volatility picks up in my direction...
I will stay in the trade much longer (beyond my first profit targets) to see if I caught a possible Gap fill.10:43
<markss> thanks for that post NihabaAshi
<NihabaAshi> pat...agree...for this thing to fill its gap...its going to need a reaction to a schedule market event.10:44
Maybe those speeches will be a trigger.
<pat255> yes niha ...
<szubaark>  Covered all Short NQ at 1859.75 --> - 0.25 «« paper »» 10:48
<RussellDaytrade> recalculated target is 825.7210:50

Traders Accounting

As traders we must treat our trading like a business if we are to succeed as traders and as a business. Therefore, waiting till the last few weeks March to prepare for April's taxes is not good for your trading and could put extra stress on your trading during tax month or the months that follow if your one of those traders that filed an extension.. Therefore, its best to be on top of your taxes throughout the year and Traders Accounting is a great resource for such especially if you want to prevent penalties or an audit several years from now.

<NihabaAshi> Normally I would cover my remainder at this WRB @ 828.6012:36
However, that big upside GAP is too tempting.
Thus, I'm staying in the trade for a possible GAP fill.12:37
exit stop lowered ER2 @ 830.20
<X>  #FuturesTrades Info -> Chat room for realtime trade posting by traders of Emini Futures (ER2, ES, NQ, YM), EuroFX Futures (EC), Eurex Derivatives (DAX, ESTX50), Euronext Futures (FTSE100, CAC40), Treasury Futures (ZF, ZN, ZB), NYMEX Futures (CL, NG, HO, QM) and Exchange Traded Funds (DIA, GLD, IWM, OIH, QQQQ, SPY)12:47
<NihabaAshi>  Covered Remainder ER2 Short @ 830.00 --> + 0.5 13:19
<markss> another winner very nice13:20
<NihabaAshi> That gap fill wasn't meant to be but a good risk trade for such :)13:21
Thanks markss...still some time remaining in the trading day...
May get a second chance.
<markss> yes

some of the hardest things about trading is that from 9:35 until 12:35 there was obviously sellers and yet the up/down volume was 7 to 1 to the upside for the first hour13:27

yet somewhere in that first hour the larger players were getting short at the tops

it is so hard to see it happening when you get such a large upside on the up/down volume ratio

and then towards the lows here the larger players again are going long on the downmoves setting themselves up for this up move13:28

for a nice stop run up13:29

so hard to see in real time

its seems like large players use the WRBs to change or reverse their positioning as an example the public is buying into those climatic bars while the large players are selling into these13:36

that is what I am looking to learn here how they are going about doing this

so any comments or observations are appreciated13:37

also on the last wave of a selling trend the bigs are buying into those lows also to set themselves up for the next trend up13:38

so looking to learn how they are going about that
<NihabaAshi> ER2 tested the WRB S/R Zone of that WRB that closed at 1221pm est13:42
<markss> Niha waht time frame WRB are you refering too a 5 min?13:44

refering to

never mind I firured it out thanks13:45

figured it out
<Brutus> Marks you are asking for the grail of trading. If you could see that you would have every turn, right?
<NihabaAshi> markss...the 3min chart13:48
<markss> Brutus you are correct on that, but I dont think there is a difinite answer I realize that, but if we put ideas together it may give us some small hints and any edge I can get I wil take
for example if you look at the market trend, usually the last run on the trend the volume will subside and that is one small hint for me13:49
the volume will subside to the downside on the last run into the turn
also for example at the begining of a trend the large players will be on board on small volume not showing their13:50
hand to the public then the public joins in
WRBs start to happen and then the market reverses those bars and takes out the late public buyers13:51
then continues the trend in the right direction with the large traders on board and the public left at the behind
so looking for any ideas that someone may have experienced in their trading careers that they may have experienced to help see those set ups13:52
<Brutus> Yes I watch volume closely as well. Prints at bid/ask, DU volume and block trades
<markss> WRB help tremendously because we know that big hands are changin hands with the public13:53
Thanks Brutus, I agree
<X>  #FuturesTrades Info -> Chat room for realtime trade posting by traders of Emini Futures (ER2, ES, NQ, YM), EuroFX Futures (EC), Eurex Derivatives (DAX, ESTX50), Euronext Futures (FTSE100, CAC40), Treasury Futures (ZF, ZN, ZB), NYMEX Futures (CL, NG, HO, QM) and Exchange Traded Funds (DIA, GLD, IWM, OIH, QQQQ, SPY)13:56
<markss> what just happened in the es is a perfect example of what I just said, on a 3 min chart we had a WRB at 1:18 eastern time, the stops got run the public tried to jump on board and the market tries to take out those late entries here13:59
to stop them out
one thing that I really watch is a 34 ema and a 34 sma, those are the only mas I watch but they act as great S&R areas as well and when they break through those they can break hard and find support as just happened14:04
I trade the es though not the er14:05
so dont know if they work as good on the er
but great on the es
<RussellDaytrade> i expect it to climb into 832.4 by 12:51 mnt, and then drop into 829.56...i am, for the first time, projecting not one, but two moves ahead. :)14:20
<markss> Russel may I ask how you are projecting that high in the Russel?14:22
<RussellDaytrade> the move to 825.72 manifested to .72% fulfillment, offering 6.2 out of 8.5, good enuf.

i base it upon its own trading price action14:23

correction to above, target achieved 72% of projection, not .72%14:25
<markss> well thank you for the explaination Russell, not sure I understand it but thanks for trying14:31
http://charthub.com/images/2007/04/20/Un titled_12_314:32
Here is a chart of what I was mentioning earlier
there are three moves to the downside shown by the red lines14:33
the last move down shown on the maket delta the momentum stays level while the market heads down
also the purple line is the up/vol minus the down vol they both stay level while the market moves down14:34
then the WRB happens and the big players change hands on that last push down
and up we go
after the fact is easy to see while it happens is much harder14:35
the last push down is show on the time flags at 12:118 to 12:33
<RussellDaytrade> ah, thats nice...early, thats ok, I like it best when its right on the button.14:38
<markss> just was watching Russel excellent
Russell I noticed that its a 72% retracement from the high to the low, at you mark is that what you meant14:41
retracement back up
<RussellDaytrade> was in shoer...no, what I meant was my expectation for a move down was fulfilled to approx 72% of my expectations...not great, but satifactory..got the direction correct, and the extent, for the most part....14:53
<markss> Thanks Russell appreciate it
<RussellDaytrade> at 12:51, the er traded at 832.4...close a fkn nuff, with a little luck, the second piece will also fulfill...but thats what makes it fun, the element of the 'unknown'.14:55
<markss> amazing 3 to 1 up volume and more all day long and the market sells off and cant even get back up to its high of the day15:01
yet
The trin not helping on this up move and the add and vix barely helping15:03
Banks retraced exactly 50% of the days move so pretty weak there as well15:04
also lower highs on the banks
sector15:05
<NihabaAshi>  Shorts ER2 @ 832.60 -> small size

1 contract only15:06

<NihabaAshi> Although its a nice looking WRB...my entry only gives me about a 2 tick shallow profit :(15:18
