I see often a common discussion at many discussion forums and in chat room by traders trying to determine how to predict trend days.
Here's a simple solution. Find yourself a good economic calendar. Next, study and correlate your charts to that calendar and you will see that trading days that are occupied by Bill Announcements tend to produce range bound trading days or days where the market will tend to close near its opening price.
As for trend days, they tend to appear when there a day associated with the Federal Reserve such as FOMC Announcements, Beige Book and key fed speakers that are being monitored closely by big institutions.
In addition, trading days where there was a parabolic price movement via 0830am est economic reports will tend to produce a few good trends when the market opens at 0930am est.
Today was full of Bill Announcements. Thus, I reduced my position size to have better control over my risk exposure because I expected either a range bound trading day, few pattern signals or a day where the closing price is close to the opening price.
Simply, it was a good trading day to get some personal stuff completed.
