Pay Attention to Fed Chairman Bernanke

Profit/Loss Statement

Today's price drop was mainly related to key market events involving FED chairman Bernanke speech at 1030am est and the EIA Petroleum Status Report @ 1030am est.

Further, this is a common place example why we need to know when volatility will tend to appear in the markets because they have an enormous impact on our profit level.

As for my own trading...thank you Mr. Bernanke.

Commentary by M.A. Perry (a.k.a. NihabaAshi)

Note: Each month there are a few trading days that we consider to produce big price movement as the result of other key trading instruments in its own market or within other markets (intermarket analysis).

You can view the charts and a few clues that's associated with the key price action at our key market archives.

<NihabaAshi> By the way, I strongly believe the GAP Down was caused by concerns over Iran/Britain situation as things heat up between the two.10:03

Lets put it this way, if those soldiers aren't released soon...I wouldn't be surprise to here about re-deployment in Iraq along the Iranian borders :(10:04

Giving them the "needed reason" to take miliatry action against Iran especially in the midst of the Nuclear situation.10:05

<asuni12> bernanke is still talking?
<jperl> he hasn't started
<eminitrader> thouht it starts @ 10:30 ?
<asuni12> :-(10:17
<vvsr79> I think he will start at 10.30 est
<asuni12> i knew at 930 east
9:30 AM ET : Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke to testify on the U.S. economic outlook, subprime mortgage situation to the Joint Economic Committee of Congress, in Washington .
<vvsr79> Just checked calender it says 10.30am
<NihabaAshi> Question for the room...10:20
Many weeks ago someone that's a mathematician and trader said I was computing my point average incorrectly...10:21
For example...
Lets say today I traded YM and made 25 points on a 1 contract trade.
* codehead_afk is now known as codehead
<NihabaAshi> Then for the remainder of the month I make no more trades in YM.
<pat255> oh boy a mathematcian ..10:22
<NihabaAshi> Resulting in a month of trading YM with a gain of 25 points.
However, if I don't trade YM at all next month (no trade entries)...
The math guy thinks my average per month is 12.5 YM points.10:23
<eminitrader> how ?
<NihabaAshi> I strongly disagree.
<pat255> hmmm no way to calculate av niha ...only 1 trade
<vvsr79> 25/1 = 25
<pat255> u can only calulate av if u have more than 1 trade
<NihabaAshi> Bingo
<eminitrader> no, the avg is 110:24
<vvsr79> Total Points/ Total Trades
= Ave
<eminitrader> so its 25 pts per contract
<NihabaAshi> Ok...here's where it gets interesting...10:25
Lets say I make the following...
Jan = 25 Ym points, Feb = 25 YM points and March no trades...
What's my average points per month ???
<asuni12> niha, i just asked to a mathematician.........10:26
<vvsr79> 50/3
<eminitrader> 50/3
<asuni12> the average is 25
<NihabaAshi> He thinks I should use the number 3 to determine my average.
<eminitrader> yes cuase u say per month and u traded 3 months
<NihabaAshi> I think I should use the number 2 (two months of data) to determine my average because I took no trades in March.
<vvsr79> Ave points per month
<eminitrader> regardless no of contracts
<asuni12> but not reliable
<vvsr79> Ave Points per trade10:27
<NihabaAshi> Therefore, I include a statement saying that my average is based upon the months I traded and does not include the months I don't trade.
<eminitrader> then u r right :)
<asuni12> [10:26:27] <+asuni12> the average is 25, i was referring to the first question
<Dmi76> I also think that month without trades should not be taken into calculation10:28
<eminitrader> i calulate based on pionts/contracts where pts = winners - losers
<NihabaAshi> I sent him an email (have not gotten a reply) and asked him what my average per month is if today is the month of December and I only traded Jan 25 YM points and Feb 25 YM points.

Accordingly to his logic...by the end of December...I would include 10 months of none trading to compute my results.10:29
<asuni12> i think this is correct10:30
<NihabaAshi> Thus 50 YM points divided by 12 months

Eventhough I was only trading 2 months.
<asuni12> agree if u want to know the average per month
<RussellDaytrade>  Long ER2 @ 804 paper 10:31
<NihabaAshi> My point is this...there must be usable data in those other 10 months.
His point...the number 0 is a usable data.
<jperl> He is correct
<NihabaAshi> Anyways...thought I would ask.10:32
Gets interesting if I stopped trading and never traded again...
<jperl> if you had traded those other ten months and your point gain was 0 for each month then you would have the same result as if you didn't trade those 10 months
<NihabaAshi> Based upon his logic...as each month passes by even though I'm no longer trading...my average per month should be decreasing.10:33
<RussellDaytrade>  Long ER2 @ 803 -> Add paper

Traders Accounting

As traders we must treat our trading like a business if we are to succeed as traders and as a business. Therefore, waiting till the last few weeks March to prepare for April's taxes is not good for your trading and could put extra stress on your trading during tax month or the months that follow if your one of those traders that filed an extension.. Therefore, its best to be on top of your taxes throughout the year and Traders Accounting is a great resource for such especially if you want to prevent penalties or an audit several years from now.
