#FuturesTrades January 26th Friday 2007 Trade Log

#FuturesTrades is a private and free realtime trading posting chat room on the IRC Othernet server that allows traders from all over the world to communicate.

Click here for the instructions on gaining access to #FuturesTrades.

In addition, trades posted by members of #FuturesTrades in the below trade post chat log are by traders that do not have access to TheStrategyLab.com strategies except for NihabaAshi.

Fee-based clients of TheStrategyLab.com strategies use the private IRC rooms called #TheStrategyLab and #SwingTradingTSL.

Further, you'll find below the chat room time stamped text log of realtime trades (real money and simulator) that were posted by full-time, part-time traders from around the world and the timestamp is eastern standard time (est).

Also, below NihabaAshi's trading blog like comments, you can read the time stamped trades (prices, entries, exits et cetera) and market discussions that sometimes contains trading tips or insights that are more useful than what you will see at any other futures blog or chat room.

Trading Blog Below is not your traditional trader's blog in the usual blog format. However, you will find informative commentary on a few occasions as time permits and such will contain trading tips that should help your trading as I attempt to sum up my thoughts for the trading day.

Chat Room Distractions

Profit/Loss Statement

Today it felt like I had a million personal things to do beginning with leaving the house around 1030am est for an appointment.

However, at first I thought I wouldn't do any trading and just relax until I had to leave.

Yet, I still needed to record the chat log for #FuturesTrades for members that use the log to review trades and commentary of other members and of their own.

Anyways, prior to logging into #FuturesTrades I had been monitoring Eurex (DAX) and Euronext (FTSE100, CAC40) Futures for clues about the opening for the CME Emini Futures.

I saw a little bullish price action and determine the Eminis should push upwards after the Open by at least 1-2 points before finding decent minor trend direction (up or down).

Therefore, I announced in #FuturesTrades I was bullish on the Emini Futures even though my Emini charts were not open at the moment.

Next, as soon as my charts Open...I saw a bearish pattern signal from the Intraday Market Tendencies Report (IMTR) and knew I would do the trade.

That's when I decided not to post the trade in #FuturesTrades and only discuss the trade in private with another #FuturesTrades member. Click on the link below to see part of the private discussion.

http://thestrategylab.com/images/012607mFuturesTrades.png

You can also see the annotated chart of ER2.

By the way, due to the fact that my charts were still opening, my Short position entry was a late entry of 788.40 when the pattern signal was @ 789.10 along with a strong possibility I would have gotten an actual entry between 789.10 - 789.50 in the interval after the pattern signal interval.

Anyways, it's basically a Trading the GAP trade and it was worth chasing due to the fact the initial reward area was around 787.20 (closing of the GAP).

Only trade management problem I had was on the cover of the remaining 1/3 of the position as explained and shown in the above image for the comments at 10:15pm est.

With that said, usually when I minimize the window for #FuturesTrades, its because I find some distractions and just need a little time away from the room even though I may be chatting one on one via private messaging with another trader.

Also, volatility has returned to ER2 and other key markets...allowing for some record weekly profits for me.

Note: Each month there are a few trading days that we consider to involve interconnecting key price action of different markets and such is represented by a particular type of price action from one of the key markets. <RussellDaytrade> nice trading EM
<werner> ow sorry rd didn't see you, i trade nq ym and sometimes es and er2
<eminitrader> thx RD ....
<RussellDaytrade> dang, had a buy loaded for 78411:46
that seemed like another positive price divergence just then.
<eminitrader> is that a pivot supp area ?
<RussellDaytrade> i don't know, just was looking at the dow and er price action, probably more of a sense or feel of it, may be a very short term/fleeting effect, but it just 'seems like' it trying to hold11:48
also, had a 784 down target just (mostly) fulfill off that 787.4 up setup, and thought i'd try it the other way. had traded it long mostly htis am, and still in the 'long mode', i guess.11:50
<eminitrader> k thx11:51

looks like ES is holding them down11:52
<RussellDaytrade>  Long ER2 @ 784.3 «« paper »» 11:53
feels lower now, just wanna try it
<eminitrader> ES at lod ...if it bounces then cld see a good upmove on the er and nq11:57

<RussellDaytrade> screw it, just gonna grind it out til i get 'inspired' to assume stronger conviction. positve div's still semm like they're 'on'.12:00
could surpass 787.4 on this act of play, (over couple/three hours)?? thats a ? kinda fielding for other input, as my 'crystal ball window of opportunity' is coming to a close about now. hoping someone else will share their sense of it all.12:03
all this typing, works up an appetite. b time.12:04
<eminitrader>  Covered Remainder ES Short @ 1427 --> + 1 12:14
<RussellDaytrade> well, looks like others also noticed the pos div, and couldn't wait to participate. i figured it might take a slower track up. low 790's seems like stronger prob now.12:23
all this ruckus cnbc is making over rate rising may be indicative that the rates rise is nearing its logical conclusion.12:36

Traders Accounting

As traders we must treat our trading like a business if we are to succeed as traders and as a business. Therefore, waiting till the last few weeks March to prepare for April's taxes is not good for your trading and could put extra stress on your trading during tax month or the months that follow if your one of those traders that filed an extension.. Therefore, its best to be on top of your taxes throughout the year and Traders Accounting is a great resource for such especially if you want to prevent penalties or an audit several years from now.

Exited all ER2 Long @ 785.1 --> + 0.8 «« paper »» 13:18
right at a break out point in here, looks higher, shorts of the past day and a half will have to decide whether to keep throwing into it, or turn tail. i think they start closing them, and mkt works up. may get another shallow test of 786 - 785.5. may = less then 30% odds, i figger.13:54
Long ER2 @ 786.2 «« paper »» 14:00
Exited all ER2 Long @ 786.9 --> + 0.7 «« paper »» 14:15
didn't particualrly care for my entry on that, though i think i may have a fair read on it, bigger pic.14:16

<RussellDaytrade> thats about 4 for 4 spot-on mkt calls, just today. all in all, i am fairly satisfied i have 'still got'. :)
it.14:21
actually, as i think on it, don't think i've really ever lost it, it just keeps improving, and takes me by surprise at times, when it at a high ebb. good enough for me.14:32
now, how do i take it to the next level? will have to work that out. to be continued...14:33
<eminitrader> nice work RD14:52
<RussellDaytrade> thx EM, i like how you trade, gutsy. right a high percentage, etc, etc. know when to throw it in, disciplined. keep it up, looking good.14:56
i'm trying to figure out how i can extract a litle more outta the trades when i am fairly correct, as to date, almost invariably take the first burst in my favor, (when i'm whole on the trade) to exit. in many insatnces, it has a little more to offer. wanna sor thtat out. so far in Jan, in this trade log have 134 trades, and most wins close out at a buck or less. will have to go into mental theraoy mode over weeekend and tr15:01
any suggestions you can offer EM are welcome. i see you have a good way of taking a trade into 2nd, and sometimes 3rd tiers of pft. wanna try same, though perhaps with a single c at first, not multiples. i fugure i will when my conviction is at a strong level, etc. not looking to push it, but can feel it coming to fore on its own. i like that.15:05
<eminitrader> thats just a matter of time RD...try paper 3 lots and exits at 1 each 3 times ...check it out15:13

<RussellDaytrade> yes, i can try that. i can do that. thx. (remind me if i get off track)15:14
earlier, i wanted to say that low 790's target might happen as soon as today, but at the time, it seemed so out there, i gave it a little more time to fulfill, (kinda like yesterdays call for 785, if anyone can recall that far back). well, here it is and here we are. i dunno whether to say its early, or right on time. either way, it fulfilled, close enough.15:17
actually, the number i had in mind was and is 793. don't really know hy, just, 793. go figure.15:18
anybody in here like to trade breakouts and breakdowns? your presence is requested.15:20

<RussellDaytrade> yes, i think that seentiment is shared by many, me too, and therein awaits opportuinties for those that are willing to assume the risks. lik ethat breakout near 13:10. oh, meant to short that 791 retest, got onto something else and forgot, if had, would be closing right about now.15:31
<eminitrader> thats the difference between us and niha....a good trader is not afraid to buy at the highs and sell at the bottom :))15:35
its got a lot to do with ur method too...but in general15:36
<RussellDaytrade> the reason i inquired about breakout traders, is that i am not at this time trading that style, and thought there's a good place for a BO trader to 'lead the way' on some of these ops. i'm more of a 'looking for a reversal' trader.

have to get ready for a meeting, have a good weekend all. thx EM.15:38
