#FuturesTrades January 8th Monday 2007 Trade Log

#FuturesTrades is a private and free realtime trading posting chat room on the IRC Othernet server that allows traders from all over the world to communicate.

Click here for the instructions on gaining access to #FuturesTrades.

In addition, trades posted by members of #FuturesTrades in the below trade post chat log are by traders that do not have access to TheStrategyLab.com strategies except for NihabaAshi.

Fee-based clients of TheStrategyLab.com strategies use the private IRC rooms called #TheStrategyLab and #SwingTradingTSL.

Further, you'll find below the chat room time stamped text log of realtime trades (real money and simulator) that were posted by full-time, part-time traders from around the world and the timestamp is eastern standard time (est).

Also, below NihabaAshi's trading blog like comments, you can read the time stamped trades (prices, entries, exits et cetera) and market discussions that sometimes contains trading tips or insights that are more useful than what you will see at any other futures blog or chat room.

Trading Blog Below is not your traditional trader's blog in the usual blog format. However, you will find informative commentary on a few occasions as time permits and such will contain trading tips that should help your trading as I attempt to sum up my thoughts for the trading day.

Trading Perspective

Profit/Loss Statement

Today was a classic example about how much of an impact our health has on our trading.

First of all, there's a snow storm here in Quebec City and I missed almost the first 30 mins of trading due to the fact I was shoveling snow and helping neighbors shovel snow.

In the process I pull a muscle in my back and its a constant problem in the winter time due to the fact its a chronic problem from an old sports injury.

Further, the first 30mins of market price action is critical to my trading because its when I put on my best trades.

Next, as the trading day progress and while eating breakfast at the computer...I felt a sharp knife like pain in my tooth.

It was so painful that I mismanaged two trades and they resulted in losses.

I then examined the tooth and saw that it had split in half and I knew it was related to my root canal.

Anyways, I took some Motrin but by the time it kicked in...I was already in a deep hole of losses and the goal for the remainder of the day until my emergency dental appointment was damage control (reduce my losses to something tolerable).

I was able to reduce my losses but ran out of time due to the dental appointment in which I'm confident I could have closed the trading day at a profit.

Today's results (real money and simulator trading) shown above are that of NihabaAshi only. To see his total accumulated points for the month of January...click here. To see results for the months of 2007 and prior years...click here.

Commentary by M.A. Perry (a.k.a. NihabaAshi)

Note: Each month there are a few trading days that we consider to involve interconnecting key price action of different markets and such is represented by a particular type of price action from one of the key markets. You can view the charts and their clues that's associated with the key price action at our key market archives.

Still think LOD is in so 780 target in ER is acheivable imo

As you can see RD the Strategy calls for holding for bigger moves :)10:42

I am bearish for the week, but was not expecting today to be a down trend day10:44

LOD may just be for the morning, I should clarify10:47
<RussellDaytrade> smaller size on scaled entries?...oversold enough nearterm for this bounce...tiered sizing also, or consistent size entries on a scale? good trading, way to bail on the eraliest trade...
<Brutus> Not really RD. Accept greater losses for a bigger and less frequent home run.10:49
<RussellDaytrade> that low will likely hold
<Brutus> But my daily prediction is improving so it is in that context that I am trying this10:50

As you saw earlier I let some good profits get away but am up a decent amount. I would be nothing compared to holding for 78010:51
<NihabaAshi>  Shorts ER2 @ 778.30 -> small size
1 contract only because I'm in profit protection mode.10:52

<NihabaAshi> I finally got the price direction correct...just too tough to stay in a Short position.13:11
<RussellDaytrade> IS, as best as i can see, this is typical price action. if you don't like this action, how and what is it you like to see, and what your preferred trade?
<NihabaAshi>  Covered all ER2 Short @ 779.10 --> + 0.6 13:13

<NihabaAshi> I got the direction correct now...just tough to stay with the trade.
I'm down 1.4k for the day...may load up on the next trade and go to 9 - 15 contracts if some volatility appears.13:15
<ItalianSharp> RD: as far as the type of price action i like to see, rewind back to thrusday or even wednesday last week and take a look at the 2-3min charts...that's what i like to see13:17

much smoother movements
<RussellDaytrade> i happen to prefer days like today, as strongly trending days are more 'challenging' for me, as i usually am looking for a countermove, whether its up on a selloff, or down on a rally, etc. seems like typical price action to me, and all my model targets are fullfilling, as they usually do on days like today...ok, will look.

Traders Accounting

As traders we must treat our trading like a business if we are to succeed as traders and as a business. Therefore, waiting till the last few weeks March to prepare for April's taxes is not good for your trading and could put extra stress on your trading during tax month or the months that follow if your one of those traders that filed an extension.. Therefore, its best to be on top of your taxes throughout the year and Traders Accounting is a great resource for such especially if you want to prevent penalties or an audit several years from now.

reversals and continuations
i dont scale in... but do scale out
eventually i expect that i would incorporate scale ins... i do see the opportunity many time s with these methods15:38
<eminitrader>  Exited Remainder ES Long @ 1422.75 --> + 2
<PapaJon> Brutus.. do you use self hypnosis?15:39
brett stienbarger talks briefly talks about ptsd and treatment via emdr....15:40
<Brutus> Tried it seemed to help. Cannot be sure I was 'self hypnotised'
<PapaJon> not sure what i think about it in relation to trading15:41
hehe.. gotcha bru
<Brutus> It is a form of positive visualisation
<RussellDaytrade> EMDR? ptsd=posttraumatic stress symdrome?15:42
<PapaJon> ptsd = post traumatic stress disorder15:43

<eminitrader> gotya
<PapaJon> i believe that sitting at the beach.. (ocean) .. may be natural form of emdr
<Brutus> Heres a crazy technique to try at the gym to help your trade entries
<PapaJon> the sounds of the waves back and forth15:45

very hypnotic and relaxing
<RussellDaytrade> well, i think i have a little case of the latter, ptsd, gunshy on taking my signals, great stats with high %'s winners.
<Brutus> OK so target is 10 hard reps you are on rep 8 or 9

visualise your trade setup ond you taking it. Doing this rep is taking the trade. It has to be a very hard rep to complete15:46

It is a form of positive reinforcement and 'reframing' the moment15:47

see yourself taking the trade with confidence and positive expectation15:48

Make any sense?
<PapaJon> yes.. somewhat...15:50
<RussellDaytrade> yes, somewhat. are you or do you try and see yourself from outside yourself, as if you are an observer? have seen and read that described by various successful traders, psychologists, etc.15:51
<Brutus> Yes, see yourself, feel the emotion be in the moment15:52
Just like training for any sports event
You have to see yourself win and belive it15:53
<RussellDaytrade> thx Brut, train to trade by trading, and train to trade by visualizing.15:54
<Brutus> Yes if you dont short circuit your current emotions and psychology you will repeat it every time, no matter what back testing you done etc imo15:56
<PapaJon> you all have a great evening... will cya tomorrow, cheers!15:57
<RussellDaytrade> the excellent work and stats i have developed, while exhibitting a high degree of accuracy, frequency, and win-rates, still don't complete the components neccessary to get me more actively trading.15:59
so long PJ16:02
<Brutus> The other thing RD is when I replay the recordings and the perfect setup comes, I go crazy on the buy (or Sell) button, like walking yourself through the trade numerous times.16:09

Rewind play, rewind play until it is burned into the subconcious16:10
<werner> gn all16:12
<RussellDaytrade> thx Brut, this area is beginning to touch upon where i can use the most developing. your recordings, they in your head, or you play an actual recording?16:14

<Brutus> Replaying actual RT recordings is best. Mine are the 15s snapshots that I sequentually play, but its good enough. Once I upgrade the computer setup I will do RT recordings.
<RussellDaytrade> well, those all sound like excellent and training aids, recordings, visualizations, replays of setups, etc. i found the particular trading strategy you employed today of great interest, since it resembles the area i am most inclined to use.16:29
i am inclined to believe it will work a high % of the time, if one can discern and distinquish, and avoid, the strong trending days, etc.16:31
<Brutus> Just trying to integrate multiple time frames and probabilities on the action. Apply your intraday methods on a 15 min chart over multiple days RD16:34

OK have to run Cul8r16:35
